Just a quick post to report on the Hampstead Affordable Art Fair last week. My favourites were Gordon Hopkins, Emma Williams, Alison McWhynter and Jenny Wheatly - all pictured here. It's interesting for me to see them all together here and spot the theme - I am obviously pretty taken with abstract, colourful, still life! Give me flowers and fruit and plants next to open windows, throw in an animal and a patterned wall or textile and I'm sold! If I painted, this is how I would paint and if I could afford affordable art, this is what I'd buy. I also find there are hints of the 20th century art I like in these pieces, similar to Matisse or Vanessa Bell. I will write more on this another day because it's bedtime.
